Professionalyzing Creativity

To choose a professional path in the cultural, artistic or creative fields requires more than talent, if you want to develop a sustainable and rewarding life.

Background

Since 2006 I have been working with people in the creative industries who want to develop their impact, their leadership or their organisations. This work has led me to see that being successful in the creative industries today requires much more than talent. The dream of being discovered or helped on your own professional path is not something that is rewarded for most people.

Being a professional in the cultural spheres today requires a new skillset in professionalyzing individual creativity as well as organisational creativity.

This is what I see as my mission: to help organisations as well as individuals to develop so we as societies can ensure the quality and richness of creative, artistic and cultural development.

The Method

Based on the research on professional development by Gianpiero Petrigliero and Herminia Ibarra as well as Philip Boxer's reading of the late teachings of the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, this method helps individuals and organisations:

1. Define how they must identify with their profession, their stakeholders and the context in order to function.

2. Realize and experiment with how they could identify differently and by doing that let other things happen.

Many years of research

Since my master studies in psychology in 2006 where I focused on creativity, I have conducted my own research to support my clients with knowledge about professional life and the creative industries. On the basis of this theoretical research I have written four books on professional creativity.

In 2023 I started my ph.d. research project on professional creativity at the research center NIODA in Melbourne, Australia. With this research I am trying to test and develop my methodology for professionalizing creativity further.
